About Us

The Pioneer Resort is a unique fishing and family experience. It will take you back to a simpler time centered around early mornings casting for the big one, slamming screen doors as kids run to the lake with their inner tubes, and evenings of s'mores around a campfire. The Pioneer Resort opened to guests around 1937 and has been (almost) held in time ever since, to provide guests a modest and affordable "place at the lake." Your hosts, Earl and Margaret McNea have continously owned and operated the Pioneer Resort since 1976.

Fishing

Fishing is the main event at the Pioneer Resort, which is located on pristine Lake Campbell. Lake Campbell is approximately 500 acres of prime fishing habitat for Northern Pike, Large Mouth Bass, all types of panfish, and even the elusive Walleye. If Black Bullhead (belonging to the catfish family) is your thing, you can catch that too. The Pionner Resort is the only lodging facility on Lake Cambell, so most of the boats you see on the lake will be your resort neighbors. Your cabin will include a 14-foot aluminum boat with oars for your use all week. Outboard motors are available to rent with prior reservation request. You may also bring your own boat/motor. Remember to pick up your Minnesota fishing license in advance of arrival.

Attractions

The Pioneer Resort is located 15 miles north of Bemidji, Minnesota, the largest town in northern Minnesota and home to Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. Bemidji and the surrounding area hosts a number of attactions, including shopping, dining, mini-golf and go carts, bicycle rentals, movie theaters, summer theater, and a whole host of other summer events. Don't miss picking strawberries at the nearby farm or the 4th of July parade, if the timing or your visit permits.
